MY LONDON LIFE - Mark Hutton

Liquid error: invalid date

01 Name
Mark Hutton

02 Job title
Associate director, Douglas & Gordon,
Battersea Park

03 Where do you live?
Tooting, in the charming locality of Furzedown.

04 How long have you been in London?
London has been my home on and off for my whole life. Aside from the requisite stint travelling the globe, there was also a period during which I attempted to live on the coast down in Newquay. While the scenery was glorious, it wasn’t at all lucrative, so ultimately I was drawn back to the capital to forge a career in the London property market.

05 Preferred mode of transport
If time were no object, I would walk everywhere without question. Travelling on foot allows you to take in so much more of London and, given that it’s not a vast geographical expanse, you
have the luxury of exploring hidden streets off the beaten track. Sadly, work and its diary
commitments mean I have to drive most of the time; plus with dog and young child and frequent trips out to the country, I have to mobilise us as a family somehow!

06 Favourite London view
Albert Bridge at night never fails to delight.

07 Ideal weekend in London
Now that I’m a father, weekends are family time. I would have to say a quiet Friday night in front of the fire with my wife and a good bottle of red wine is the ultimate start to the weekend. We descend onto Tooting Common Saturday mornings to watch my two-year-old son play Muddy Knees Kids’ Rugby. Sundays often begin with a lengthy dog walk on Wimbledon Common before
indulging in a huge roast at home with friends.

08 Favourite restaurant
Medlar on the King’s Road offers an unrivalled lunch menu, while Tinello on Pimlico Road is great fun in the evening.

09 IN LO NDON, I’ve always meant to…
Make it to the Last Night of the Proms.

10 The best thing about my patch
Although we fell into Furzedown by default, due to its relative affordability compared to other parts of the borough, it’s proved perfect for us as a young family with all of the parks and commons across Wandsworth, Tooting and Wimbledon. Many friends have since followed us to the area, so we have a close network nearby.
