The Poppy Appeal is one of the UK’s largest and most loved fundraising campaigns. For two weeks in October and November, millions of people around the UK and the world wear a poppy to honour the Armed Forces past and present, and their families, and to support The Royal British Legion's vital work providing direct and practical help to members of the Armed Forces community in need.
This year, the Legion is focusing on the range of work it does to support Armed Forces families, whether they are families of personnel on active service, of those currently in transition from military to civilian life, or of veterans.
Every poppy helps raise the £1.6 million spent by the Legion each week helping those most in need, whether it’s giving families a Poppy Break, which offer much-needed time away from it all, or providing a grant to support people in crisis to meet unexpected costs.
Every poppy helps ease the stress caused by unmanageable debt through the Legion’s Benefits and Money Advice service, as well as helping bereaved Service families cope with the difficulties and challenges they may face at inquest.
Over 40 million poppies will be made and distributed for this year’s Poppy Appeal by 350,000 dedicated collectors, who are aiming to raise £37 million during the Poppy Appeal 2013 to support the Legion’s vital work.
